Rationale

Nowadays, tourism takes part in competitive world in many ways extremely that are by water, by land, and by air. Although tourism now is slow down because of many factors or obstacles such as politics situations, epidemics, and economic conditions, it still sustains themselves and it attracts me to study this kind of business.
In addition, Singapore Airlines is one of the new leading airlines of the world recently that they ever been just an ordinary airline in Asia and they can be not comparable with our national airline ‘Thai Airways’, but today they became the best airline in Asia and in the world in the part of first class that they wins The Best First Class by cabin type 2009 from Skytrax world airline award; the specialist Research Advisors to the air transport industry. Consequently, I’m interested and choose this airline to study about their company.

Company Background

Singapore Airlines (SIA) is one of the two offshoots of the Malayan (later Malaysian) Airways, an airline company formed in 1947 by British interests when both Malaya and Singapore were under British rule. This was a joint business between the Malaysian and Singapore governments and served initially in the South East Asian region. In 1966, the company’s name was changed to Malaysia-Singapore Airlines (MSA), and later the two governments agreed to set up separate airlines. Singapore Airlines was born in 1972.

Singapore Airlines was in a different position than most other airlines at the time. There were no domestic routes to serve so it was forced to immediately start competing with international airlines for routes, getting access to airports, securing flight slots and landing rights, and attracting a new customer base.SIA is one of the world's most successful airlines, with the distinction of having one of the youngest and fastest growing fleets in the world.

My Journal : Week 3

Today the class begins with student’s blogs that Aj.Gob shows some blog to the class for students can see some picture in their mind. Next, there is working in group of 5 to brainstorm and share the ideas about the product and match them with the Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs or warm up activities that it took mostly class time.
For this activity, my group focused on the brand name product in group of cosmetic that we picked up “Artistry”, one of outstanding product of Amway Company. I think the core values of Artistry are quality, designing, packaging, reliable, and fame. Especially, it is one of Top 5 brand in the world. For the reason that we choose to buy this brand because of reasonable price, good promotion for members, reliability, attraction from the advertising, convenience to reach the products, and there are many styles, sizes, and many choices for choosing. The value that we seek from this brand is the good effect from a product. These are some examples of activities today.

My Journal : Week 2

This week begins with the course description by ajarn Gob that it took nearly two hours about the course objective, scoring, evaluation, and policy. Today, ajarn Gob begins to give me homework such as preparing about the final project, writing journal, and researching about the recent hot news that is GM bankruptcy because we’re in business course that I agree with her in this point.

For the second class of this week, ajarn Gob talked about creating blog and lecturing the term of business, careers in business, and talked about Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. About the word ‘business’, it is any activities for making and increasing a profit as much as you can throughout production, distribution, sale of goods and services for a profit. About careers in business, generally have five wide fields and them will work related together that are management, marketing, accounting, finance, and computer and data processing.

I think the teaching methods of ajarn Gob about business is not same as some teacher that I have learnt before because she gave me the knowledge sheets like marketing mix (4Ps) about business while some business class I ever studied ordered me to speak, speak, and speak, but actually I don’t want only speaking. I want to study about the core of business and that is in my knowledge sheets already. Thank you very much.

My Journal : Week 1

This is the first week of this semester that’s means this is the last term of sitting in the class room to study in WU for me. Today, there are not too much to get in to subject matter because this is the time for class introduction and small pretest. These help me in deciding to choose the course which is appropriate for me.
In fact, I have never seen Ajarn Gob before except the rumor about the homework that she gave her students that sounds like it’s quite a lot. However, because I’m interesting in International Trade, I became one part of this course automatically. I have some admiration to ajarn Gob, I like her teaching because I think she is quite well understanding the students like she knows that is not everyone like speaking and someone fear to open up the mouse to speaking in English and she always puts some word to encourage the students. Another one is she makes the class room happy with smile and laugh that it can relax me so much to get in to the subject matter better.

Conclusion of SIA Marketing Mix (4Ps)

@ Product----- SIA differentiate their airline from competitors with excellent in-flight services.

@ Price----- SIA pricing has been perceived as worth the value by the customer but still competitive with other airlines.

@ Place----- SIA have covered major cities in Asia, Europe, America and Australia.

@ Promotion----- The Singapore Girl campaign was a great success in projecting the experience in flying with SIA. The ad triggered a high level of recall, even higher than 40 other airlines advertisements.
