Promotion Strategies
(What make the brand successful in terms of promotion strategy?)
In the part of technology, SIA uses the information technology is an essential feature of SIA’s strategy both in enhancing customer service as well as increasing efficiency.
### Commercial Advertisement ###
The Singapore Girl campaign was a great success in projecting the experience in flying with SIA. The ad triggered a high level of recall, even higher than 40 other airlines advertisements.
## TV program ##
The primary message "Singapore Airlines - A Great Way to Fly" has been consistently conveyed in exclusive print media and also in selected TV-commercials of very high production value to underline the quality aspirations of brand. All communication messages are featured through the iconic Singapore Girl in different themes and settings. When Singapore Airlines recently launched their comfortable Space Bed seats in business class, they ran a 60-second commercial of a highly emotional and mythical character to underline the aspiration of the brand and the Singapore Girl, and to set their airline brand apart from competition.
Interestingly, Singapore Airlines has chosen to focus on one aspect of the experiential brand strategy - in-flight hospitality and warmth featured by the Singapore Girl - rather than trying to communicate the entire brand benefits through its messages. A dangerous trap, which many other brands often fall into in their efforts to communicate all at once. This has led to a focused and consistent message for SIA during the last 32 years. This in itself is a great achievement for any brand.
For example, according to TV advertising using pre- and post- awareness studies of A.V. Seaton, M. M. Bennett (The Marketing of Tourism Products) about SIA TV advertising in London, England that was aired in an around the main evening news programme, which was known to be viewed by ABC1 executive travelers. The result was an awareness of SIA TV campaign in London was increasing continuously, which from 43% to 64% within two years.

Reflections
Working on this project, I have divided my reflections into two main parts; making blog and the knowledge of Singapore Airlines.
In the part of making blog, it is the new good IT knowledge for me because I never do this. At the beginning, I afraid that I can’t do this, but now everything is good. I learned the way to create, improve, develop, and design the blog. I think I will apply this knowledge to my working in the future when I work in the real world.
The second part is the knowledge of Singapore Airlines. Now I found the answers that why SIA became the new leading airlines of the world, why SIA got success more than Thai Airways, and why SIA is the best airline in Asia and in the world in the part of first class.
Thank you very much for offering me the good work experiences. I think I may be having a chance to refer to this project when I study the master degree in Airline business in the future.
Thank you very much.

Target Group
USP/Positioning
Singapore Airlines is positioned as a premium first class airline with high levels of innovation and excellent levels of service, and has made a strategic choice of giving priority to profitability over size. They use the Singapore Girls as a Unique Selling Point (USP). Singapore Girls in traditional Kerbaya uniform conveys a sense of familiarity and comfort. The Singapore Girl epitomizes Asian values and hospitality, and could be described as caring, warm, gentle, elegant and serene. It promised the passenger a lovely flight and great service. In addition, the social status of the Singapore Girl has also reached near-celebrity in Asia. This has allowed Singapore Airlines to be highly selective in the recruiting process for talent which has added further to the strength of the brand icon and the legend around it.
Branding
Branding and publicity efforts have revolved primarily around flight crew, in contrast to most other airlines, who tend to emphasize aircraft and services in general. In particular, the promotion of stewardesses known as Singapore Girls has been widely successful and is a common feature in most of the airline's advertisements and publications. This branding strategy aims to build a mythical aura around the Singapore Girl, and sketch her as representative of Asian hospitality and grace. This is itself was great branding and also very loyal to the brand. This has become the most important competitive advantage for the company. Staff training and development programs have helped SIA retain and improve its customer service level through measures such as language courses and attitudinal programs to ensure professional service amongst employees. As a result the awareness of the Singapore Girl image among global customers is high. Singapore Girl broke that branding image of traditional marketing communications focusing on cabin design, food, comfort, and pricing. Personified through the girls, passengers got a sensory or emotional experience of air travel with service and quality excellence.
SIA is a proven company that delivers great service reflecting their frequent international awards for innovation, flight experience and quality service. Many companies aspire to the status that SIA has earned itself, but SIA earned this through their commitment towards their mission statement of delivering quality world class service to their customers as their prime objective.
Singapore Airlines decided on a fully branded product and service differentiation strategy from the very beginning. Innovation, best technology, real quality and excellent customer service were to become the major drivers of the brand.
Key Successful Factors
1. Clarity Goal
SIA's focus on service is completely clear. The mission statement is "Singapore Airlines is a global company dedicated to providing air transportation services of the highest quality and to maximizing returns for the benefit of its shareholders and employees". It’s including core values are establish without question that quality service to customers is a fundamental objective and aspiration of the airline.
2. Continuous Training
SIA realize that daily customer contact can be draining, and that customer expectations are on the rise. To meet this challenge, SIA created four training centers within the company (Cabin Crew, Flight Operations, Commercial and Management Development) offer a wide range of inspiring and demanding educational programs. Whether in the classroom, on the job, or through full scale simulations, SIA staff members are continually motivated to upgrade and improve their performance.
3. Career Development
SIA staffs are regularly evaluated for performance, and potential. High-flyers are identified and given every opportunity to learn and grow early. This leads to a management team with great breadth and deepness, with a shared understanding of "the big picture," with a commitment to do what's best for the customers and the business.
4. Internal Communications
SIA is a large organization, with more than 28,000 staff located in cities and subsidiaries throughout the world. People from different cultures must work together to produce a positive customer experience. To keep everyone on the same path, SIA publishes a variety of department newsletters and a monthly company magazine as a good way to contacting of every staffs.
5. External Communications
It’s was built in the advertisement especially by the Singapore Girls by delivering quality service, and she is the brand identity to the public personification of that service.
6. Connection with Customers
SIA makes an effort to stay in touch with customers through in-flight surveys, customer focus groups and rapid reply to every compliment or complaint they received. SIA consolidates this data in "Service Performance Index" that is closely watched throughout the airline. Another way is the frequent flyers program that is especially well connected with special messages, offers and publications sent regularly to members of the priority passenger "PPS Club".
For example, in 1998, it conducted a survey on 4,000 passengers from all classes to determine their needs and preferences. The survey found that people wanted comfort, privacy and the experience that SIA offered. Thereafter, the company undertook a $500 million cabin revamp covering details from custom-built seats to cashmere blankets.
7. Various and wide rang of network
Even outside the industry, SIA always try to find the new ways to improve and grow. The hotels, banks, restaurants, retail outlets and other service industries take part in SIA’s amenities, convenience or comfort. SIA still try to see that what can be adopted or adapted for the airline industry.
8. Improvement, Investment and Innovation
SIA has built a reputation for being the lead and doing things differently than the others. Using the concept of try-it-out, make-it-work and see-it-through, SIA makes every possible effort to find the key to success and create it. Instead of just copying other airlines, SIA takes the lead. Instead of charging an entertainment fee, SIA provides everyone, including economy class, a headset.
For example, free drinks and headsets, fax machines on board, individual video screens and telephones in every seat, leading edge gaming and in-flight entertainment, "book the cook" service for special meals in First and Business classes, phone, fax ,and e-mail check-in.

Rationale
Nowadays, tourism takes part in competitive world in many ways extremely that are by water, by land, and by air. Although tourism now is slow down because of many factors or obstacles such as politics situations, epidemics, and economic conditions, it still sustains themselves and it attracts me to study this kind of business.
Company Background

Singapore Airlines was in a different position than most other airlines at the time. There were no domestic routes to serve so it was forced to immediately start competing with international airlines for routes, getting access to airports, securing flight slots and landing rights, and attracting a new customer base.SIA is one of the world's most successful airlines, with the distinction of having one of the youngest and fastest growing fleets in the world.
Thank you the information from http://www.allaboutbranding.com/index.lasso?article=382
My Journal : Week 3
For this activity, my group focused on the brand name product in group of cosmetic that we picked up “Artistry”, one of outstanding product of Amway Company. I think the core values of Artistry are quality, designing, packaging, reliable, and fame. Especially, it is one of Top 5 brand in the world. For the reason that we choose to buy this brand because of reasonable price, good promotion for members, reliability, attraction from the advertising, convenience to reach the products, and there are many styles, sizes, and many choices for choosing. The value that we seek from this brand is the good effect from a product. These are some examples of activities today.

My Journal : Week 2
For the second class of this week, ajarn Gob talked about creating blog and lecturing the term of business, careers in business, and talked about Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. About the word ‘business’, it is any activities for making and increasing a profit as much as you can throughout production, distribution, sale of goods and services for a profit. About careers in business, generally have five wide fields and them will work related together that are management, marketing, accounting, finance, and computer and data processing.
I think the teaching methods of ajarn Gob about business is not same as some teacher that I have learnt before because she gave me the knowledge sheets like marketing mix (4Ps) about business while some business class I ever studied ordered me to speak, speak, and speak, but actually I don’t want only speaking. I want to study about the core of business and that is in my knowledge sheets already. Thank you very much.

My Journal : Week 1
e course which is appropriate for me.In fact, I have never seen Ajarn Gob before except the rumor about the homework that she gave her students that sounds like it’s quite a lot. However, because I’m interesting in International Trade, I became one part of this course automatically. I have some admiration to ajarn Gob, I like her teaching because I think she is quite well understanding the students like she knows that is not everyone like speaking and someone fear to open up the mouse to speaking in English and she always puts some word to encourage the students. Another one is she makes the class room happy with smile and laugh that it can relax me so much to get in to the subject matter better.
Conclusion of SIA Marketing Mix (4Ps)
@ Product----- SIA differentiate their airline from competitors with excellent in-flight services.
@ Price----- SIA pricing has been perceived as worth the value by the customer but still competitive with other airlines.
@ Place----- SIA have covered major cities in Asia, Europe, America and Australia.
@ Promotion----- The Singapore Girl campaign was a great success in projecting the experience in flying with SIA. The ad triggered a high level of recall, even higher than 40 other airlines advertisements.
